A Heat Exchanger is responsible for the transfer of heat into the water within the system. Depending on the type of appliance in question, there are two different types of heat exchanger: A primary heat exchanger and a secondary heat exchanger (also known as a domestic hot water heat exchanger or a plate heat exchanger). The most common is the primary heat exchanger which is present in most boilers and transfers the heat from the burner to the water in the system. Alternatively, the plate heat exchanger is only present in combi boilers and enacts heat transference between closed systems.
